Germany’s First Tank Was a Monster: A7V 🇩🇪 #A7V

The German A7V tank, “Elfriede,” captured during the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux on April 24, 1918, undergoing evaluation. The Germans only built twenty A7Vs-they had a crew of 18 and were not a very successful design-but they did put far more captured British tanks back into action. The only surviving A7V is “Mephisto,”which was abandoned by its crew at Villers-Bretonneux. It was later recovered and taken to Australia in 1919 as a trophy. It is currently on display at the Australian War Museum
