China builds its first high-speed rail crossing the sea. A 277.4-kilometer-long high-speed railway stretches over three sea gulfs in southeastern China's Fujian Province – linking the provincial capital of Fuzhou and the province's popular tourist city of Xiamen. It will pass through eight stations with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour, halving travel time between the two cities to less than one hour.
