Ruthven Barracks were built between 1719 and 1721 by George I’s government following the Jacobite rising of 1715 to house garrison infantry and enforce the Disarming Act of 1716. Dominating the head of the Spey valley, the barracks could hold about 120 men in two three-storey buildings. Towers at opposite corners housed officers' quarters, a guardroom, prison, bakehouse, and brewhouse. Stables

Ruthven Barracks, located near Kingussie in the Scottish Highlands, were constructed between 1719 and 1721 on the site of the earlier Ruthven Castle. The barracks were part of a network of military outposts built by the British government in the aftermath of the 1715 Jacobite Rising.
