🏁On August 1, 1976 reigning Formula One champion Niki Lauda nearly died in a crash in the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, Nurburg, West Germany. Lauda suffered severe burns and inhaled toxic fumes but returned to racing 6 weeks later (missing just 2 races) and lost the championship by just 1 point. A week before the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, even though he was the fastest driver on that circuit at the time, Lauda urged his fellow drivers to boycott the race, largely becau
