MIAMI - A tropical storm warning was in effect for all of South Florida Wednesday as Tropical Storm Helene moved on a path toward Florida's Gulf Coast, which the storm is expected to hit as a major hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center Tuesday evening issued a tropical storm warning for the Treasure Coast, including Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties.

A hurricane made landfall in northwestern Florida as a Category 4 storm as forecasters warned the enormous system could create a “nightmare” storm surge and bring dangerous winds and rain across much of the southeast.
