Police in Switzerland say a fire at a bar in the Crans-Montana ski resort area is believed to have left about 40 people dead and dozens more injured.

The blaze broke out during a New Year’s Eve party at a bar in Crans-Montana, a ski resort town in the Swiss Alps. About 40 people were killed and roughly 115 injured, many gravely, the police said. The Swiss president said it was “ one of the worst tragedies our country has ever experienced.”

The blaze has broken out at Le Constellation Bar and Lounge in the popular ski resort of Crans-Montana, Switzerland, amid a New Year's Eve celebration with hundreds of people inside
