ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A middle school student from Tyrone Middle School shot herself on a school bus, St. Petersburg Police Department said. According to officers, a middle school student suffered a gunshot on the bus at 18th Avenue North and 49th Street North on Tuesday morning.

A 13-year-old girl was shot on a school bus in St. Petersburg; she was the only one with a gun among 20 students. Her condition is stable.

All 15 passengers on the bus were students at Azalea Middle. Five children were taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with minor injuries, police said. The driver of the Jeep SUV was also taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. The investigation is still ongoing, police said.

St. Pete police are on scene at the intersection of 49th Street North and 18th Avenue after a female student suffered a gunshot wound on a school bus. The school bus was transporting 20 students to Tyrone Middle School.
