Officers issued several calls for the suspect to leave the vehicle parked on a street in front of a home. Broadway, a bustling corridor, was quiet as police blocked off the intersection with Freeport Boulevard. A helicopter whirred overhead.

Sacramento police have taken a person into custody after a standoff began with a driver who may have been part of a carjacking earlier Tuesday morning. A heavy police presence can be seen on Broadway and Freeport Boulevard.

Sacramento police are negotiating with the female driver of a parked vehicle in Land Park, officials said. People are asked at this time to avoid Freeport Boulevard between Broadway and 2nd Avenue.

Police responded around 5:30 p.m. to a call from the 3600 block of 26th Avenue in South Oak Park, where they found the boy with at least one gunshot wound, said department spokesperson Officer Allison Smith. The boy was pronounced deceased at the scene after police attempted lifesaving measures, Smith said.
