The Yankees are expected to activate veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu prior to Tuesday's game. If Cabrera's injury is as serious as it appears, LeMahieu will be able to slot into third base without much friction -- either from a starting lineup or active roster perspective. LeMahieu had missed the first month-plus of the season with a calf injury.

After fracturing his left ankle during an awkward slide in Monday night's win in Seattle, New York Yankees third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle fracture ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Mariners.

The Yankees utilityman, who broke his ankle in a gruesome play at the plate Monday night, flew back home on Tuesday and then saw the first ankle specialist on Wednesday morning.
