Weather warnings remain in place this morning, with the possibility of more being issued as the cold spell deepens. A Status Orange alert for much of the country will expire at 11am, while a nationwide Status Yellow alert for low temperatures and ice remains active until noon on Friday.

A new status orange low temperature-ice warning has been issued for Kilkenny, Carlow, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway, Roscommon and Tipperary. Met Eireann warn that it will be extremely cold with widespread severe frost and ice, along with lying snow in some areas. Patches of freezing fog also.

Forecasters are considering new weather warnings as an “extremely cold” snap continues in Ireland. Temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -8C while a Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning applies to the entire Republic of Ireland until the end of Thursday.

Met Eireann has extended the nationwide Status Yellow weather warning by another 12 hours as Ireland faces a further freeze for the next four days. The Low Temperature alert issued at the weekend had been due to expire by noon on Thursday,
