Neighbors remember elderly couple killed in Cocke County flood
In Cocke County, two people were killed after water quickly rushed to homes on Goodwater Road after midnight. Sheriff CJ Ball confirmed that Mike and Jean Obrist were the two who were killed. Neighbors said that the elderly couple had tried to evacuate as water came rushing towards their home.

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WATE) — Recovery efforts in Newport are just beginning following the major flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Helene. Streets in downtown are coated with mud and businesses along Broadway suffered damage.

Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis has shared that two people are dead after flooding in the county in the aftermath of Helene. Mathis shared about the two deaths during an update on social media, adding that the county has no more missing persons.

Mathis said multiple agencies are continuing to respond to calls of service as county residents recover from the flood.
