Marine Mammal Rescue team responded to a call from MacDill Air Force Base on Saturday, where a stranded manatee was found near the end of the base’s main runway.

Manatee County staff provide preliminary storm damage assessments, excluding Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach.

Staff is responding to the reports of these strandings; however, some areas remain impassable after Hurricane Helene. If you encounter a stranded, injured, or dead manatee, please do not attempt to handle it call our Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.

Two of Detwiler’s six stores in the Sarasota-Manatee county area are closed after Helene’s havoc. They are the West Bradenton unit, 3500 53rd Ave. W., and the University Park store, 6100 N Lockwood Ridge Rd.

Biologists at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have been responding to reports of stranded manatees caused by Hurricane Helene, the commission wrote. Manatees can get stranded during hurricanes and tropical storms during rough weather conditions,
