Former Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr is charged with second-degree murder for shooting and killing 26-year-old Black motorist Patrick Lyoya in April 2022.

Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr continues for its third day Wednesday. Schurr is charged with second-degree murder in the April 2022 shooting death of Patrick Lyoya. If convicted, Schurr could face up to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

After an emotional first day, many gained perspective on the use of the Taser and whether the use of force was justified. Much of day two’s testimony centered on the actions captured on camera. The prosecution introduced two expert witnesses to provide insight into the Grand Rapids traffic stop that turned into a deadly confrontation in April 2022.
