An early morning 4.2-magnitude earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay Area and the Monterey Bay area in California, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The 4-mile deep quake hit 2 miles from Aromas, about a 45-mile drive south from San Jose, at 2:47 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, according to the USGS.

National Weather Service officials warned of “hazardous heat” that’s expected to impact the San Francisco Bay Area early this week, as temperatures are forecast to climb as much as 15 to 20 degrees above seasonal averages across the inland valleys.
