A portion of southbound Interstate 35W north of the Twin Cities was shut down for several hours Tuesday due to a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles.

A person was killed in a crash in Mounds View on Interstate 35W on Tuesday morning and the highway is closed in the area. The southbound interstate is closed between U.S. 10 and Ramsey County Road I until about 2 p.m., according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. U.S. 10 eastbound is closed at the exit ramp to I-35W south.

One person is dead after a major crash on Interstate-35W in Mounds View late Tuesday morning, according to authorities. Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Mike Lee said the crash happened in the southbound lanes around 10 a.m. and involved seven vehicles, including at least one commercial vehicle.
