EAST MEADOW, NY -- Ilya Sorokin will do "everything to be ready" for when the New York Islanders begin the regular season against the Utah Hockey Club at UBS Arena on Oct. 10.

Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin was seen for the first time on the ice during training camp taking shots Wednesday morning. Sorokin, who has not participated in training camp due to offseason back surgery, was on another rink at Northwell Health Ice Center, taking shots from goaltending coach Piero Greco.

New York Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin participated in his team’s full team practice on Thursday — the first time he has done so since undergoing offseason back surgery. “I feel really good,” Sorokin said.

The goaltender practised Thursday for the first time since having back surgery in the off-season and told the media he is “going to do everything to be ready for opening night.”

Ilya Sorokin joined his New York Islanders teammates for practice on Thursday morning, as the goaltender particiapted in his first session of this year's Training Camp, presented by Northwell.

Prior to the team's practice, Sorokin was on the ice with fellow goaltenders Semyon Varlamov and Marcus Hogberg, taking shots from a handful of NHLers. Sorokin did not join the group for the main practice but stayed on the other ice sheet, working with goalie coach Piero Greco.

DiPietro, who signed a 15-year deal with the Isles in 2006 and saw his career derailed by a series of injuries — mainly to his knee and hip — can relate to that more directly than most. His advice: Don’t rush it.
