A magnitude 3.0 earthquake centered in New Jersey briefly shook NYC Saturday night, prompting emergency guidance but no major damage.

The quake's epicenter was in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. No injuries or structural damage was reported shortly afterward, said Jonathan Tytell, a geophysicist at the USGS.

An earthquake rocked New Jersey late Saturday night — luckily, though, fairly softly. It was reported to be a magnitude 3 quake, generally considered to be a minor, “low energy event” that would not be extremely noticeable or cause extensive damage.
