On this day in 1924, Macy’s hosted it’s first Thanksgiving Day Parade. Originally called the Macy’s “Christmas Parade,” it was all about showcasing their huge new store and getting everyone excited for holiday shopping.
In 1895, Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel signed his will and testament establishing the Nobel Prizes, bequeathing most of his fortune for annual prizes honoring outstanding achievements in peace, physics, chemistry, literature, and physiology or medicine. (The prize in economic sciences was added in the 1960s).

Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne missed his own team’s game to attend. 1928: Marjorie Stewart Joyner received a U.S. patent for a permanent waving machine.
