Southern University’s Fabulous Dancing Dolls to Forever Dolls are celebrating decades of history and showmanship on Friday, September 9, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge.

Founded by Gracie Perkins and Dr. Isaac Greggs, who led the Southern University Marching Band for 36 years, the Dancing Dolls are known for stylish uniforms and amazing choreography.

I didn’t expect to find healing in struts, spins, and doll hands — but that’s exactly what happened with the Dancing Dolls at Southern.

In doing so, they help to buy band and dancing doll uniforms, book vouchers and help the band with travel expenses. Next year the current band has a grand honor of playing in the 2020 Tournament ...
