Khabib Nurmagomedov: Islam Makhachev vs. Ilia Topuria ‘biggest fight,’ not Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira
As highly anticipated as Jones vs. Pereira would be, Nurmagomedov still thinks it falls short of Makhachev vs. Topuria, which would pit arguably the current top 2 pound-for-pound fighters in the world against one another. “Still a big fight, but not on that level,” Nurmagomedov said of Jones vs. Pereira. “I don’t think it’s same level.”
UFC 322 blew the roof off Madison Square Garden last night (Sat., Nov. 15, 2025) in New York City, which featured a Welterweight title fight that saw Islam Makhachev dominate Jack Della Madallena to become the new king at 170 pounds (recap).
Both Jones and UFC light heavyweight champion Pereira reciprocated interest in fighting each other at the planned White House event next June. Former two-division UFC champ Jones is widely considered the greatest fighter of all time, and Pereira one of the biggest stars in the sport.
Valentina Shevchenko and Weili Zhang met in one of the biggest women's fights in MMA history at UFC 322. Headlined by another massive title fight featuring Jack Della Maddalena and Islam Makhachev, UFC 322's co-main event saw Zhang move up from the strawweight division to challenge Shevchenko for the women's flyweight belt.
In the main event, former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev made light work of Jack Della Maddalena to claim his welterweight title. Earlier on the fight card, a pair of 170-pound contenders, Michael Morales and Carlos Prates, pulled off impressive KO wins to throw their names into the mix of potential challengers for Makhachev's new belt.
