Californians can request free tests at COVIDtests.gov. The online portal will open in late September, the Health and Human Services Department said, but it did not provide a specific date for when the website will begin taking orders. Households can order up to four COVID-19 tests.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said it will again make four free COVID tests available through the mail for households.
