MUMBAI, India — India captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from test cricket Wednesday ahead of the squad's upcoming tour of England. The 38-year-old Sharma added that he will continue representing India in one-day internationals.

In an interaction with PTI, Dinesh Lad revealed that the main thought behind Rohit Sharma's decision to retire from Tests is to give the next generation a chance. This is similar to why he announced his T20I retirement after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

As India embarks on a five-Test series against England, beginning on June 20 at Headingley, Shubman Gill has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Rohit Sharma as the team's full-time Test captain.
