Major League Baseball owners voted Thursday to approve John Seidler as control person of the Padres. Usually, such a vote involves a transfer of ownership. Thursday, the unanimous vote was merely a handoff to the brother of former Padres chairman Peter Seidler, who died in November 2023.

The fight over control of the San Diego Padres appears to have been resolved, at least among Major League Baseball team owners. MLB owners unanimously approved John Seidler to take over as the Padres' control person on Thursday.

If appointed, John Seidler will simultaneously succeed Matt Seidler as trustee and Eric Kutsenda as Padres chairman. Seidler, 65, could soon oversee a team that won 93 games last season and took the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers to the brink in the National League Division Series.
