At least 193 people have been confirmed dead following severe flooding and landslides in Nepal, where heavy weekend rainfall was reported.

Days of heavy monsoon rains in Nepal have triggered widespread flooding and landslides across the Himalayan nation, killing almost 200 people and causing widespread destruction.

Many of the deaths were in the capital, Kathmandu, which got heavy rainfall, and much of the southern part of the city was flooded.

A number of roads have been flooded and rail services disrupted as heavy rain hits north-west England. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain across the region. Merseyside Police said it had put temporary closures in place in the Seaforth Road and Knowsley Road area in Bootle.
