U.S. President Donald Trump's press secretary says the plan to slap Canada with punishing tariffs on Saturday is still in play.

U.S. President Donald Trump still plans to make good on his promise to issue tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Saturday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday. Leavitt told reporters in her first White House press briefing that Trump also is still "very much" considering fresh tariffs on China for Saturday.

Having already forced Colombia to accept deportees by threatening a 25% tariff, President Donald Trump is readying the same move against Canada and Mexico as soon as Saturday. But this time, the stakes are higher and many economists surveying the possible damage doubt Trump would be comfortable with what they say would be self-inflicted wounds from the tariffs.
