Among the first ones to take 'Amrit Snan' were Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara. This comes a day after the first major 'snan' on Monday in the Sangam area to mark the occasion of 'Paush Purnima'.

The Akharas took ‘Amrit Snan’ on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti at the Maha Kumbh Mela at Triveni Sangam – the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and 'mythical' Saraswati rivers – in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.

During the Amrit Snan, the akhadas hold the privilege of taking the first holy dip, and their bathing sequence is determined by the Akhada Parishad, which allocates time slots based on each one’s hierarchy.

Maha Kumbh 2025 began with the first Amrit Snan led by spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri on Makar Sankranti. Millions gathered at Triveni Sangam for this sacred event, featuring rituals by 13 akhadas.

Seers from various 'akharas' took the first 'Amrit Snan' at the Maha Kumbh on Makar Sankranti on Tuesday as an unbroken stream of people converged at the Triveni Sangam on the occasion with around 3.5 crore devotees taking a dip.

According to religious leaders, the first 'Amrit Snan' holds significance because the 'Akharas' or the monastic orders of Hinduism are participating in it. The Uttar Pradesh government expects an estimated 35 crore devotees to visit Prayagraj during the rare religious congregation of Maha Kumbh 2025.
